New Park & Ride Options for Concertgoers
In anticipation of the Shakira concert on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the Alamodome, VIA Metropolitan Transit has introduced two additional Park & Ride access points. In addition to its longstanding Crossroads Park & Ride, VIA is now offering direct shuttle service from the Brooks Transit Center and the Frost Bank Center. This move aims to reduce traffic congestion, streamline event arrivals, and provide a safe, affordable transportation option for thousands of concertgoers.
VIA’s Park & Ride system has long been essential in managing large-scale events in San Antonio, and its expansion for the Shakira concert underscores the agency’s commitment to efficient urban mobility. The concert, part of Shakira’s world tour and expected to draw tens of thousands, marks one of the city’s largest live events for summer 2025.
What Passengers Need to Know
- Crossroads Park & Ride (151 Crossroads Blvd., 78201)
- Brooks Transit Center (7903 S. New Braunfels Ave., 78223) – Fares are free for passengers boarding here for this event
- Frost Bank Center (1 Frost Bank Center Drive, 78219)
Passengers can park free of charge at all three designated facilities. Those using Crossroads Park & Ride or Frost Bank Center will pay just $1.30 for a one-way trip, or $2.60 round-trip. Discounted rates are offered to students, members of the military, seniors, and other eligible riders. For this concert, VIA is offering fare-free service from Brooks Transit Center, an initiative aimed at increasing transit accessibility in San Antonio’s growing Southeast sector.
Service Schedule & Convenience
Event buses begin shuttling from each location two hours before Shakira takes the stage (service to the concert starts at 5:30 p.m.; show at 7:30 p.m.). Shuttle return service continues for one hour after the performance concludes, giving concertgoers ample flexibility. VIA buses will receive priority traffic routing, reducing delays and ensuring swift passage to and from the Alamodome.
According to VIA, expanded Park & Ride offerings and coordinated traffic strategies have previously reduced event-related car congestion by more than 20%. For summer 2025, further bus fleet additions and driver assignments are expected in advance of the city’s high-profile cultural and sporting events.
Payment, Accessibility, and Rider Services
Shuttle passes can be purchased several ways: online via the goMobile+ app, directly at each Park & Ride station, or on board using electronic payment methods. Riders may use cash, credit cards, VIA fare cards, and contactless mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay). VIA has invested in modern fare technology allowing seamless boarding even during heavy event inflows.
To support inclusivity and San Antonio’s multilingual community, VIA advertised these travel solutions in over 10 languages including Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, German, and Arabic. The agency’s multilingual support—both online and at station kiosks—demonstrates a commitment to accessibility for the city’s international visitors and diverse resident population.
Free parking, real-time bus tracking, and customer support through VIA’s virtual assistant are also available, ensuring smooth travel throughout the evening. Travelers are encouraged to consult the official event Park & Ride page for latest updates, schedules, and frequently asked questions.
Looking Ahead: Sustainability and Event Mobility
Public transit is central to city sustainability strategies, and VIA continues to make strides in environmental stewardship. By expanding Park & Ride for high-attendance events, the agency aims to reduce carbon emissions, promote carpooling, and prevent parking shortages—benefits that resonate with local leaders and urban planners alike. In 2024, San Antonio was rated among the top 30 U.S. metros for integrating transit options with major events, contributing positively to air quality and attendee satisfaction.
VIA’s Park & Ride model is expected to be featured again throughout 2025 for concerts, conventions, and large sporting matches at the Alamodome and elsewhere. Riders can expect enhancements in comfort, digital ticketing, and real-time passenger notifications as part of VIA’s ongoing commitment to innovation.
